Injury Lawyer & Attorney Advisers

When someone is injured because of someone else’s negligence, malice or reckless behavior, they may need the help of an injury lawyer or attorney.

The particular law firm that handles a case and the particular kind of injury involved, will determine whether you have one lawyer representing you or a team of lawyers. People who are injured or become ill through no fault of their own may be entitled to compensation for expenses related to their injuries, from the negligent party or parties that caused the victim’s injury or illness.

No matter how major or how minor a victim’s injury is, they should not have to pay any money towards medical bills, damaged property, and other expenses that often arise after these unfortunate situations arise. If this has happened to you or someone you care about, it may be in your best interest to find a good personal injury attorney in your area to discuss your situation with.

Lawyers vs Attorneys

In many countries the titles of lawyer and attorney mean different things. In the United States they are used interchangeably even though technically they do not mean the same thing.

In the U.S., a lawyer is someone who has graduated with a Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school in the United States. Their law degree gives them the title of lawyer and it qualifies them to be able to deal with some legal matters that require a law degree but it does not qualify them to represent people in court.

In order to represent a client in court, a lawyer needs to successfully pass the bar exam in the state(s) they want to practice in. Once a lawyer has passed a bar exam, they have the additional title of attorney.

As mentioned earlier, the terms lawyer and attorney are used interchangeably in the United States where both are used to mean a person with a JD and a license even though technically, these titles are defined differently. Many attorneys advertise themselves as lawyers even though they are in fact licensed to practice in the state they are advertising themselves and their firms in.

If you are not sure whether or not a lawyer whose help you are interested in retaining is licensed to protect injured people in the state where your injury occurred, it is easy to do find this out through that state’s bar association. Most bar associations have online services where you can look up an attorney’s license status, and any disciplinary and administrative history they have, by name or by bar number. If you cannot locate an attorney through a state bar association’s website, most of them can help you over the telephone.

Injury vs Illness

When it comes to personal injury claims the term injury can represent an injury or an illness. In this respect, a personal injury claim typically involves the plaintiff (the victim) and their lawyer, seeking compensation from the defendant, the person who caused the conditions that led them to become injured or ill. A defendant’s insurance company (or companies) are very often involved in personal injury lawsuits.
